If anything, it might make you not feel a bit annoyed with how Ubisoft changed Fisher, because you won't be as used to his old voice and appearance. The first Splinter Cell, and Pandora Tomorrow are never really mentioned again in the series, outside of a few throwaway lines that aren't integral to the plot in later games.
Chaos Theory relates a bit to Conviction, in a very small way, but is otherwise not mentioned, in the same way as the original and PT. Otherwise, it's really not too important. Blacklist pretty much stands on its own. It doesn't rely on any of the other games for plot points, and considering that Sam's voice actor has changed, and that his appearance has been overhauled, it's as good a starting point for people new to the series as any. It's a bit harder on series veterans, because most of us are used to Sam's older, more harsh voice, and his steadily-aging appearance throughout all of the previous games.

Adult Written by bailey9 September 9, Great game game graphics so the violence is kept to a minimum. Lots of fun. This title contains: Ease of Play. Had useful details. Read my mind. Adult Written by JD December 17, Ok mild blood, guns, swearing, and politics. Adding this rating in preparation for the VR game.
Adult Written by MikeyB April 15, Violent, profane, and bloody Although you have the option of slitting throats and murdering dozens of people, the game encourages the non-lethal approach.
While you play as Sam Fisher, a secret agent who has the freedom to get the job done however he feels like, the game rarely stops you from killing people. Most of the cutscenes show almost unavoidable scenes of pools of blood, piles of severed bodies, and several F-bombs during a tortuous interrogation scene mostly from one character specifically.
Not very educational, but a lot of fun to play! Climbing pipes, maneuvering windowsills and ziplines, definitely action packed, but nothing to be too concerned about. As long as your kid knows the difference between real and fake violence, you should be good.
Adult Written by Robert E. April 22, I started playing solo when I was about 17, but had played it before with my dad. This game is very violent and is full of profanity, with the main characters and even enemies dropping the f bomb several times in the opening missions, but calms down a lot after that.
When you shoot enemies, they groan in pain with an "Aaah" upon death. While there are ways to non lethally subdue enemies, killing them is usually the only way to get rid of them or to advance.
With blood flying, necks snapping, and even an on screen electrocution torture scene, this game is not for the faint of heart. If you have kids, make sure they can't hear the game. Adult Written by OfficialGuy September 18, The blood and gore and language The game is based on the stealth shadow genre so you are mainly taking out people in the shadows so you cant see it. This is without even taking into account the game's inherent design, which doesn't match the quality of later games in the series.
The complexity of the narrative is razor thin, far more generic compared to later entries like Chaos Theory , or even Pandora Tomorrow. Plus, this was before Sam Fisher's identity and personality really came into his own, as there's a severe lack of clever writing that the iconic superspy is known for. Fans should play the first Splinter Cell game, but not new players.
In terms of Splinter Cell games beloved by the hardcore fans, Pandora Tomorrow is often the underrated pick for best in the series. It's certainly not as mainstream as Chaos Theory was, but a lot of the narrative and mechanical improvements of the series began with Pandora Tomorrow in Design-wise, Pandora Tomorrow was sort of the development bridge between the first game and Chaos Theory. Several quality-of-life changes improved the gameplay mechanics, and it was clear Pandora Tomorrow was a glimpse into what would become one of the most widely-praised games in the whole series.
Unfortunately, this is the most difficult legacy Splinter Cell game to play , mostly because it's not sold on any modern platforms. Plenty of threads on Ubisoft's forums, as well as Reddit, involve fans asking for a digital re-release of Pandora Tomorrow. Ubisoft's existing Splinter Cell Collection still omits Pandora Tomorrow , and likely will for the forseeable future, which is a shame. Which leads to Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory , which is generally the prime example most fans will point to as the best Splinter Cell game in the entire franchise.
Understandably so, Chaos Theory was the peak of Sam Fisher's stealth action : The story is a top-notch international espionage thriller that ramps up in intensity as Fisher's mission becomes progressively more precarious.
