Comment by helmates I must admit to being underwhelmed at my success finding Deepsea Scales from Frenzied Threshers in Twilight Highlands. I was thankful there was no competition, but even with the Bountiful Bags guild bonus, it took more than one full kill-all-mobs trip to get 1 stack of Deepsea Scales.
The drop rate seems low and respawn rate is slow, as pointed out above. Comment by I found the frenzies thresher in the twilight higlands good to farm these. If you take two swims around the island you can get between pieces.
It took me half an hour to do this i did not mount between kills. One other reason to go her, is to fetch some volatile fire, savage leather, and blackened dragonscale in this area. I went for a half an hour to do my two swims, then up to the lava pools up north, where you can fish up some 8- 12 volatile fires there in te pools fire pools are the calles, i thought - with find fish you will see these , and then head up to obsidian forest for some more savage leather and some dragonscale.
In one hour i got: - 13 deepseascales - 14 volatile fires - 10 blackened dragonscale - 88 savage leather Happy farming! BTW u get even lots of cooking materials to cook your food on.
However I was able to skin only 20 Deepsea Scales in 30 minutes. Not 60 an hour as was previously posted. Hunter level I was killing them relatively fast. A lot of Savage leather though and there are a lot of crawlers close to each other. Comment by Just1Micky For low levels that aren't particularly interested in farming mobs, Atasha in Vashj'Ir is a good alternative, respawning every second. Just kill, then loot, then skin and then repeat, has a 20 percent drop rate, but as you can kill this mob constantly and it is only level 80 it's a good alternative.
Comment by I have to agree with just about everyone here. These are a joke to try to farm. And since in Blizz's infinite wisdom, you need a ton of them to make anything, they're a total waste of time.
If you happen to find some on the AH that aren't outrageously priced, just buy them. Simply questing will give you a few here and there skinning everything possible.
After all quests in Vas I still only ended up with one stack. An hour in Feralas netted Strange thing is, I got 2 tiny treasure chest even though the pot is supposedly only good in Cata areas.
I hated wasting the potion but wanted to try the area out. I suggest creating something that doesn't require all of the scales Comment by Hokares Just another testimony to awesome deepsea scale drops in Feralas. I just got 12 drops in the last 5 minutes. As an 85 rogue average pull size was mobs with the occasional 5th. Fantastic place! Comment by citrique The best place to "farm" these as a geared 90 is in ZG. In under 30 minutes killing all the fish and lost offspring of gahz'ranka in the instance plus Tor-Tun, I got 5 stacks.
They also drop tons of savage leather along with the scales. These are utterly worthless however, except for making Hardened Scale Cloak which is a pretty solid item to disenchant for dust.
If dust is over 10G each on your realm and savage leather is decently high, clearing out ZG in a half hour while farming for the mounts there is a good way to make a few thousand gold. If these are under 50S each or so on your server's AH, they're probably worth buying out for this purpose as well. Comment by Junglestalker Iw found the crocs in Zul' gurub to give tons of scales, they are easy to kill at lvl 90 and are fairly clustered up!
Comment by Annuin Should anyone still want these, Zul'Gurub is a good place for them. If you skin your way around the moat, killing the crocs on the banks, the lost spawn of Gahz'ranka and the frenzied fish, you can get about If you leave the bosses untouched, you can reset and go around the moat again and again.
